Still trying to decide on my second video.

Am still trying to choose a concept video to contrast with my first video (Jigsaw Falling Into Place- Radiohead, directed by Garth Jennings and Adam Buxton http://cdn.sparkart.net/radiohead/media/h.264/Radiohead_Jigsaw-radiohead_h264.mov)
I don't really want to go for the usual examples for this sort of thing (Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, etc. Even then, I was thinking of using Gondry's Massive Attack video, but it's too long to use really) so I'm trying to use slightly more obscure examples. I'm currently considering the video for Hot Chip's Ready for The Floor (directed by Nima Nourizadeh) http://partizan.com/player/NN_HOT_CHIP_ready.mov . Finding it rather difficult to make a final decision really.

Third lesson.

Today we talked about how artists manage their image through music videos. The artist can use a video to transition from one image to another, or to increase their star power. Star power comes in three different forms: Economic Power (through earnings generated), Artistic Power ( how much control they have over their image, how they appear artistically to the media and the general public) and Ideological power (influence on their audience, either fashion-wise or opinion/attitude-wise)

We used a couple of videos that Alex brought in as examples, of the band "A Simple Plan" (I will refrain from giving my opinion for reasons of politeness)

Mandatory second post.

In today's lesson we watched a documentary on Chris Cunningham. I'd seen his videos before, and I like them, though I can see why others in the class wouldn't. Probably my favorite video of his is the one for Bjork- All is full of Love, my least favorite is the one for Madonna - Frozen ( I suspect background meddling from Madonna/her record company during the making of it, it's a bit too bland compared to his other videos). I've run out of things to say, so I'll just end this post here.
P.S: Have decided on a good example of a performance video for presentation (Jigsaw Falling into Place- Radiohead directed by Adam Buxton and Garth Jennings.) Just need to decide on a good example of a narrative/concept video to contrast. So many to choose from!

Mandatory first blog post.

Right, so at the moment (in class), am looking at various videos I like and trying to think of what I'm going to say in the presentation we have to do. I don't think I'll update this blog much, I'll try but writing is always a bit of a slog for me, but I guess I'll just have to try and see.
